Home Maintenance Checklist

Here’s a monthly checklist you can use to keep your home well-maintained and save thousands of dollars.

A regular home maintenance schedule can save you thousands of dollars in repair costs down the road. Even better? You don’t need to be handy to keep your home well-maintained, so today I’ll give you a quick checklist to follow. 


First, though, make sure you keep a monthly calendar. On the same day of each month, write down what you’ll do and what you’ll check. Every Saturday of each month, I recommend setting aside 30 minutes of your day to do the following:


1. Check your HVAC or heater filter. This should be changed monthly or bi-monthly, depending on the grade of filter you use. Adding this task to your schedule will add years to your heating system.

Using Technology to Show Properties

Homes are still being viewed all the time, but most are not being viewed in person. Here’s how homebuyers are operating a little differently these days.

With the coronavirus pandemic affecting all of our daily lives and most of our typical interactions, we’re starting to use more technology to show properties. Either the listing agent, the buyer’s agent, or the seller are using FaceTime, Google Duo, Zoom, or GoTo Meetings to take virtual tours of properties. We’re also recording tours for clients and once the video is recorded, we can upload it to YouTube or Vimeo and email it out.

We have several clients who are preparing their homes for sale, and if the stay-at-home order isn’t lifted, they’ll still be listing their houses. All of our listings are still active because people are still searching for homes. For those who want to see a house, we’re conducting virtual showings either by a previously recorded video or going live with FaceTime.

There’s a quote that we live by here in our office: “When preparation meets opportunity, the end result is always success.” Before you list your property, you have to be prepared, and there are several components to this: 

1. Condition and showability. Even if your home is currently listed, invite an experienced agent over to walk through it and give you advice on why it’s not selling. Did you have a professional take your photos? Is your property one that requires aerial photos?
